Do you need an online video?

If you’re a regular reader of this blog (and most likely even if you’re not) – then you’ve probably already worked out that my answer to this question is a resounding “yes”!

 

What might not be so clear is “why”, so I’m going to enlighten you now as to the many wonders of online video, and just how getting yourself in at the forefront of this exciting technology is going to work genuine wonders for your business.

Let’s start by casting your mind back to my Digital Marketing Trends for 2017 post, in which I gave a hint of how big video content was going to become.  You may also have seen the recent articles quoting Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg describing online video as a “megatrend” that’s going to equal mobile technology before long.  In a nutshell, with the online environment for 2017 prepped and primed, now is the perfect time for you to start putting together some amazing video content!

Need more convincing?  Well, how about the fact that Facebook and YouTube have been investing in video development like never before, and it’s quite simply never been as easy to get started on making a high-quality video that’s primed to attract as many viewers as possible?  There’s no longer any need to be a technology whizz, and production costs can amount to as little as getting the lighting right and charging up your smartphone.

Facebook in particular are trialing a whole host of new ways to use video content, including trialing video advertising within its Messenger conversations.  If you’re a regular Facebook user, it probably hasn’t escaped your notice that there’s a lot of video content available as you scroll through your News feed, and that people are far more likely to click on a moving video than they are a collection of words they’ve got to concentrate on reading and absorbing.  There are cast-iron reasons for all that extra investment being made.

If you need even more convincing than that, then let’s focus on the simple fact that the days of hiding behind mere words and photos are fast disappearing.  Static ads are already beginning to appear stale these days, and what’s more, potential clients are increasingly getting a taste for seeing who they’re going to be dealing with before they meet them in person.  This is where online video can really come into its own for small businesses, where it’s likely that the person viewers meet on screen will be the same person they’ll eventually do business with.

Let’s face it, if you had a choice between two companies, and were able to watch a short, snappy and engaging video all about one with only bland website content to rely on for the other, which one would you choose to give your business to?
